Stumbled upon Eric R. Mortensen during a random Twitter conversation about PRISM :) What a lovely illustrative style… and judging by the reason for this icon set a dream job too!!

“Excited to start sharing work from a project I’ve been working on with NASA Ames. These icons are supporting a new internal scheduling software product called NASA Playbook. I’ve been told that the software will be used by astronauts on the space station and by aquanauts training in the NEEMO underwater facility.”

Clockwise from Top Left:

Block wanted to capture Cardiff in a way that reflected its character as a young & compact city. The film was created using a stop-motion technique, using over 10,000 photos taken with a standard DSLR camera. The photos were individually processed to achieve the tilt-shift ‘miniaturisation’ effect before being assembled as film clips. Over a period of several months we endeavoured to capture a wide range of shots; from the suburbs through the city centre to Cardiff Bay, not just focusing on the landmarks but also the places that form part of peoples’ day-to-day life in Cardiff.

Saw this down at the Tat Modern at the weekend, what an excellent idea!

This Exquisite Forest is an online collaborative art project that lets users create short animations that build off one another as they explore a specific theme. The result is a collection of branching narratives resembling trees.

The project was conceived by Chris Milk and Aaron Koblin, and produced by Google and Tate. It makes extensive use of Google Chrome’s HTML5 and JavaScript support, as well as Google App Engine and Google Cloud Storage.

Conductor turns the New York subway system into an interactive string instrument. Using the MTA’s actual subway schedule, the piece begins in realtime by spawning trains which departed in the last minute, then continues accelerating through a 24 hour loop. The visuals are based on Massimo Vignelli’s 1972 diagram.
